Sports

It is a common knowledge that more and more children suffer from obesity. The modern way of living and the many hours that they spend in front of a screen causes them to eat more and engage less into sports activities. The benefits of sports are plenty not only in a person’s body and physical condition, but also in their psychology and their mood. Also, according to recent studies, people who engage into sports activities tend to sleep better at night and wake up easily in the morning. Some examples of sports that are ideal for teenagers are basketball, tennis, football and even volleyball. For girls, a nice exercise would be ballet. If your children are reluctant to start exercising you can start with a bike tour near your house in order to show them how fun it is!

Books

Nowadays, more and more children spend too much of their time in front of a computer or tablet in order to play video games or connect to their social media accounts. Although, it is very good to be technologically savvy and know how the internet works, it is not healthy for them to spend so many hours in front of a screen. Instead, they can start reading books. Books can help them enrich their vocabulary, be more creative and expand their horizons. Luckily, there are plenty different types of books that can satisfy every taste. All you need to do is try to find the genre that might interest them and purchase some books that they might like.

Movies

Watching a movie at home is something that everyone loves. You can invite your children’s friends at home, prepare a nice and healthy meal and let them watch a movie. The good thing is that you can choose the type of movie that they are going to watch. It is suggested to choose an educational movie that will aspire your children. If your children learn a foreign language, you can add the subtitles of that language in order to help them get familiar with the language. In case you have a big screen or a home cinema the experience will be even better and everyone will be satisfied.

Bowling

If you are looking for activities out of the house, a great way to spend your afternoon with your children is by playing bowling. It is a nice way to bond as a family and have fun. It teaches children how important being part of a team is and how to behave when they lose. Modern bowling is much more fun than it used to be since there many different types of bowling available. For example, there is glow bowling, where black lights, disco balls and glow in the dark paints are used in order to make the whole experience really special and fun. If your children have never played bowling again, you might want to try the mini bowling where the lanes are shorter and the balls are lighter.

Internet Games

Unfortunately, you cannot avoid the internet or video games. Most teenagers and especially boys want to play online games either alone or with their friends. It is very difficult to avoid it, but there are some things that you can do in order to transform this into an educational experience. For instance, you can set limits to the time that your children are allowed to play video games. You can start with one to two hours per day and if you see that their behavior is not affected you can increase the time limit. Also, you can choose together the games that your children are allowed to play. In that case, you need to choose the ones that are the least violent but have some nice educational messages to offer.

Trips to Museums

When you first hear the word museum, you probably think it is something boring and there is no way to convince a teenager into joining you to a museum trip. In most cases that is correct, but if you carefully organize a nice and interesting trip and you combine the museum visit with other activities, your children will love it. For instance, your trip can have two or three stops, one in a museum, another one in their favorite ice cream store and a third one for lunch in a nice restaurant or in their favorite fast-food restaurant. It is very important that your children learn about history and a museum visit is a great way to do so.

By now you should have realized that there are plenty of things that your children can do in their free time, either with you or with their friends. The most important thing is that almost all the above-mentioned activities are educational, so you do not need to worry that your children waste their time or engage into activities that you do not approve. All you need to do is find the right place and let the fun begin!
